We are in support of adding more F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighters to the budget for the Department of Defense. The U.S. Navy leadership has testified to a significant Super Hornet shortfall due to the heavy use of these aircraft since 9/11 and in ongoing operations against ISIS over Iraq and Syria.

Consequently, the Navy has asked Congress for 14 additional Super Hornets that were not included in the President’s budget request for Fiscal Year 2017. The Super Hornet is the workhorse of naval aviation and only the F/A-18 production line is capable of producing mission-ready carrier strike fighters today.

Failure to fund additional Super Hornets in the FY 2017 budget will deepen the Navy’s shortfall and put this strategically-important production line at risk. The F/A-18 program supports approximately 60,000 jobs nationwide, works with 800 suppliers in 44 states, and accounts for $3 billion in economic impact for the country.
